As Corrie mum Gemma Winter’s sᴛʀᴜɢɢʟᴇ to cope with her quads grips millions of viewers, Carla Crozier knows what she’s going through. And, as her own four celebrate their third birthday, the whirlwind of joy, tears and ᴇxʜᴀᴜsᴛɪᴏɴ ᴛʜᴀᴛ ʟɪᴇs ᴀʜᴇᴀᴅ for her.
Like Gemma’s babies, Carla’s four girls were born 12 weeks ᴘʀᴇᴍᴀᴛᴜʀᴇ. But unlike the Corrie mum, played by Dolly-Rose Campbell, Carla’s were the result of a Fɪɴᴀʟ IVF ᴀᴛᴛᴇᴍᴘt with husband Paul to give their daughter Darcie, now six, a sibling.
And the couple ʙᴇᴀᴛ ᴏᴅᴅs of 70 million to one by ending up with two sets of identical twin girls. The Sunday Mirror has followed the little ʀᴇᴄᴏʀᴅ ʙʀᴇᴀᴋᴇʀs since their birth in March 2017.
On their birthday , Carla dressed Isla and Demi and fellow twins Alyse and Milla in rainbow colours. Just as she does every year in memory of two ᴍɪsᴄᴀʀʀɪᴀɢᴇs in 2015 in her bid to add to Darcie, also born through I.V..F. Carla gave birth to quads Isla, Demi, Alyse, and Milla, now four, in March 2017 via ᴇᴍᴇʀɢᴇɴᴄʏ C-sᴇᴄᴛɪᴏɴ – after going into labour 13 weeks early.
But in the weeks and months that followed their birth, Carla noticed that she sᴜffᴇʀᴇᴅ ᴇxᴛʀᴇᴍᴇ ᴘᴀɪɴ ᴡʜᴇɴ sʜᴇ ᴜsᴇᴅ ᴛʜᴇ ʙᴀᴛʜʀᴏᴏᴍ ᴀɴᴅ ᴡᴀs ʟᴇᴀᴋɪɴɢ every day.
Carla added: “I spoke to my husband about the ᴘᴀɪɴ but never about my insecurities. I was insecure about my body ᴀɴʏᴡᴀʏ ʙᴇᴄᴀᴜsᴇ ʜᴀᴠɪɴɢ ǫᴜᴀᴅs ʀᴜɪɴᴇᴅ ᴡʜᴀᴛ I ʟᴏᴏᴋᴇᴅ ʟɪᴋᴇ ᴡɪᴛʜ ᴀʟʟ ᴛʜᴇ ᴇxᴄᴇss sᴋɪɴ ᴀᴄʀᴏss ᴍʏ sᴛᴏᴍᴀᴄʜ – but I kept it to myself. I would tell Paul ‘I can’t do this exercise because I will wet myself’. I would laugh it off and make a joke of it but it’s not very nice at all. I sᴜffᴇʀᴇᴅ for nearly two years and didn’t tell anybody. I just thought this was what life was like now. I didn’t know there was help out there.”
A confused Carla was told her ᴠᴀɢɪɴᴀʟ ᴡᴀʟʟ ʜᴀᴅ ᴄᴏʟʟᴀᴘsᴇᴅ because of the ᴡᴇɪɢʜᴛ ᴏf ʜᴇʀ ᴜᴛᴇʀᴜs ᴘᴜsʜɪɴɢ on her bladder and bowels, which was causing the ᴅɪsᴄᴏᴍfᴏʀᴛ. Tʜᴇ ᴅᴏᴄᴛᴏʀ sᴜɢɢᴇsᴛᴇᴅ ɢᴇᴛᴛɪɴɢ ᴀ ᴄᴏɴᴛʀᴀᴄᴇᴘᴛɪᴠᴇ Mɪʀᴇɴᴀ ᴄᴏɪʟ fɪᴛᴛᴇᴅ ᴛᴏ ʀᴇᴅᴜᴄᴇ Cᴀʀʟᴀ’s ᴘᴇʀɪᴏᴅs ᴀɴᴅ ᴛʜᴇʀᴇꜰᴏʀᴇ ᴛʜᴇ ᴘᴀɪɴ. I feel like I have the real me back.
