Indeed, the past year has been a transformative one for our world, and it has been equally impactful for birthing people. Amidst the rapid changes and challenges faced, the strength, determination, and beauty inherent in birth shone even brighter.

As 2020 draws to a close, I’ve taken the time to reflect on the privilege of attending over 70 births throughout the year. Each experience has been a testament to the resilience and power of the birthing process, and I am grateful to have been a part of such significant and transformative moments in people’s lives.

The images I share below are only a small collection of an overwhelming display of the courage and power that existed in the birth spaces across Denver and Colorado. I tried to include an image from every birth I attended…but some births were excluded due to requests for privacy (which we ALWAYS honor).

And I can’t post this collection without also saying THANK YOU to the hospitals, birth centers, and home birth midwives who allowed doulas and birth photographers to support their clients during this pandemic. You are true heroes in so many ways, and the care you provided your clients during such a scary health crisis is beyond admirable. Thank you for holding space, holding hands, and holding hearts in 2020.
